Visa and e-Arrival: what is the difference?
A Cambodia visa and the Cambodia e-Arrival submission serve different purposes. Many travellers need to check both before they fly.
The short answer
Visa: permission under an entry category, when required for your passport and visit. e-Arrival: a separate digital arrival submission through Cambodia’s official portal. Having one does not automatically complete the other.
BEFORE YOU TRAVEL
Three practical steps
01
Check the visa rule for your passport
A visa allows an eligible visitor to enter Cambodia under a particular category. The right route depends on your nationality, purpose of visit and arrival point. Check eligibility and accepted entry points directly with Cambodian authorities before applying.
Cambodia e-Arrival is the separate digital arrival submission. The official portal says travellers can submit it within seven days before arrival and that submission is free. It does not replace a required visa.
Use the same passport details throughout. Save your visa approval, if required, and your arrival confirmation where you can access them offline. Check your airline’s document requirements before departure.
No. The official e-Arrival form is a separate arrival submission. Check the visa rule for your passport independently.
When can I submit e-Arrival?
The official e-Arrival portal says within seven days before arriving in Cambodia. Check the portal again when your journey is close.
Does e-Arrival cost anything?
The government portal states that the e-Arrival submission is free. A visa application may carry a separate fee, depending on the visa route.
What about arrival by land or sea?
Entry points and procedures can differ. Check the government portals and your transport provider for your exact crossing before departure.
Use the government sites
Entry rules can change and may differ by passport, purpose and route. Check Cambodia’s official e-Visa site for visa eligibility and the official e-Arrival portal for the current arrival process. This guide is an orientation, not an approval or immigration decision.
